The ASA is calling on sonographers and anyone interested in sonography to submit a proffered abstract for the ASA2025 Melbourne Conference.
The ASA2025 conference program consists of both invited speakers and proffered abstracts.
First time submitting an abstract?
If you are interested in submitting an abstract for the first time, but unsure where to start, we have you covered. Submitting an abstract for the ASA conference means that you are putting forward a presentation proposal for inclusion into the program. This might be an original research project, evidence-based case study, education overview, new or improved clinical technique, or a presentation on sonographer health and wellbeing.
Submitting an abstract for presentation at the annual conference is a great opportunity to share your clinical experience, knowledge or research with your peers. At ASA conferences, accepted abstracts may be presented in the form of oral presentations or posters. Submitted Abstracts should contain original work that has not been previously presented or published.
Let us guide you through the steps to submitting an abstract and explain the requirements for submission. The process is very simple. We encourage you to watch the videos from Kerry Thoirs, ASA's Research and Standards Manager, to help you through the process.
Every year, the ASA Conference Program Committee invites national and international speakers to present at the conference. The committee also opens the opportunity for anyone to submit an abstract for presentation.
Applicants will indicate the presentation format they prefer when submitting their abstract (oral presentation or poster), however ASA’s Conference Program Committee may ask an applicant to present in another format depending on how the presentation fits into the program.
The deadline for all abstract submissions will be Sunday 19 January, 2025. All abstracts will be assessed by at least two peer reviewers.
Kerry Thoirs, ASA's Research and Standards Manager, explains the application process of submitting your abstract for consideration to present in person or online, or display a poster at the Conference.
If you are considering submitting an abstract, it must be less than 250 words and should be structured into the following sections:
Introduction
Methods
Results
Conclusion
Take home message
The Program Committee will aim to place all proposed oral presentations within themed sessions. Presentations will be made to an audience of delegates interested in that topic and alongside some of the world's ultrasound experts. Sometimes it is necessary to have a session which is solely proffered presentations, and these sessions will include a variety of topics.
Invited speakers are also asked to provide an abstract or synopsis of their presentation. A synopsis is up to 250 words and is an unstructured summary of a presentation. All abstracts and synopses will be published in the ASA’s Sonography journal in the ASA2025 Melbourne Conference Supplement booklet. This special issue of the journal will also be available online through the Sonography page on the Wiley Online Library website.
Prizes will be awarded through adjudication of the submitted abstract presentations at the conference. The prizes are kindly donated by our sponsors.
Five cash prizes will be awarded at the ASA2025 Melbourne Conference:
People's choice for best proffered poster - Prize money of $125 AUD
Best poster proffered presentation - Prize money of $500 AUD
Best oral research proffered presentation - Prize money of $500 AUD
Best overall proffered presentation - Prize money of $750 AUD and complimentary registration to an ASA Annual International Conference (valid for two years).
The Best overall presentation is decided from the oral proffered presentations.
The ASA encourages all sonographers to get involved by submitting an abstract to the ASA2025 Melbourne Conference.
