Hitting the target: Sonographic evaluation of the appendix and lower intestinal tract
12:30 PM - 1:20 PMPresentation Synopsis / Abstract
Sonographers are well‑versed in assessing the appendix—particularly in paediatrics—but emerging research over the past decade has highlighted the value of bowel ultrasound in adults, especially for the management of inflammatory bowel disease. This hands-on workshop introduces you to the bowel beyond the appendix, with a focus on recognising normal and abnormal bowel appearances in real time. We’ll explore key anatomy, demonstrate how to approach an adult appendix search, and show practical ways to expand your scan to evaluate surrounding bowel. Throughout the session, you’ll pick up practical tips and tricks you can immediately apply in clinical practice. You’ll leave with greater confidence and a deeper appreciation of bowel ultrasound—not just for appendicitis, but for a broader, more insightful assessment of the adult patient.
