Horrible hammies: A hamstring survival guide
4:00 PM - 4:50 PMPresentation Synopsis / Abstract
We’ve all been there: scanning a posterior thigh tear only to realise you have no idea where you are, lost in the deep dark woods without a map. Between the depth of the ischial tuberosity and the "anatomical camouflage" of the three muscles, it’s remarkably easy to lose your way behind an attenuative gluteus maximus. This didactic session is your survival guide to the posterior thigh.
We’ll strip back the layers to provide a high-yield roadmap of the hamstring origin, specifically differentiating the conjoint tendon from the semimembranosus. We will explore specialised techniques to improve penetration and discuss manoeuvres that help separate pathology from anatomy.
Finally, we’ll tackle the pitfalls that leave us second-guessing—from anisotropy to those "is it there or isn't it?" partial tears. The goal is to move past the "search and pray" method, ensuring you can identify the culprit and conclude the session with clinical certainty.
