Correlative Imaging in Breast Radiology: Integrating Ultrasound, Mammography and MRI
Accurate lesion correlation across ultrasound, mammography, and MRI is a critical skill in modern breast imaging, directly impacting cancer detection, biopsy planning, and surgical management. This presentation explores practical strategies to optimise cross-modality correlation and reduce diagnostic uncertainty.
Key topics include:
- Anatomical localisation techniques (clock-face position, depth, quadrant mapping, nipple-to-lesion distance) and use of triangulation
- Positioning differences between modalities and how these affect lesion localisation
- Translating mammographic findings (masses, asymmetries, architectural distortion, calcifications) into targeted ultrasound search patterns
- MRI-to-second-look ultrasound correlation.
This session is designed for sonographers, and trainees looking to learn and refine their correlative imaging techniques in both screening and diagnostic breast practice.

Dr Katrina Dahl |
I-Med Radiology
Dr Katrina Dahl began her career as a radiographer before completing her medical and radiology training in Queensland, working across the Princess Alexandra and Prince Charles Hospitals. In 2017, she undertook subspecialty training in breast imaging with I-MED and BreastScreen Queensland.
During her time with BreastScreen Queensland, Dr Dahl served as the designated radiologist for the Wide Bay service and played a key role in the implementation of remote radiology services in the region.
She currently leads the breast clinic at the I-MED Caboolture Medical Hub as well as working with the Ipswich and Cairns teams and holding an appointment with the Wesley Breast Clinic.
In January 2023, Dr Dahl founded and continues to chair the Queensland/Northern Territory Breast Imaging Working Group. She is passionate about advancing patient care through innovative technology, multidisciplinary collaboration, training, quality improvement and close integration with referring clinicians.
