Multidisciplinary collaboration for limb preservation

4:40 PM - 5:10 PM

Presentation Synopsis / Abstract

This presentation highlights the critical role of multidisciplinary collaboration in successful limb preservation programs. Effective limb salvage requires close coordination among vascular surgery, endovascular specialists, podiatry, wound care, endocrine, others, AND the vascular laboratory.

Special emphasis is placed on the vascular laboratory as an integral component of the limb preservation team, providing high-quality pre- and post-operative duplex ultrasound to guide decision-making, assess physiologic success, and monitor patients longitudinally. Duplex surveillance supports early detection of hemodynamic compromise, informs timely reintervention, and contributes to improved wound healing and limb-salvage outcomes.

This session emphasizes how structured collaboration and consistent vascular imaging protocols enhance communication across disciplines and strengthen comprehensive limb preservation strategies.
