From tertiary centre to community clinic: Scanning mesenteric bypass grafts with confidence **NEW VOICE**
3:50 PM - 4:10 PMPresentation Synopsis / Abstract
Mesenteric bypass grafts are uncommon but clinically significant findings that sonographers may encounter in routine practice. When identified, confidence in recognising graft anatomy and assessing patency is essential for safe patient management.
Presented from the perspective of an early career sonographer in a major tertiary vascular surgery department, this session provides a practical overview of the most common mesenteric bypass configurations seen at the RBWH and why they are performed. The focus will be on a structured duplex approach: identifying inflow and outflow vessels, tracking the graft, assessing anastomoses, and interpreting Doppler findings in context.
Common technical challenges and red flags suggestive of graft stenosis or failure will be highlighted, along with guidance on appropriate escalation and reporting. Attendees will leave with a clear, systematic framework to approach mesenteric bypass grafts confidently in community and mixed practice settings.

When the swelling persists: Ultrasound features of post-thrombotic syndrome
4:10 PM - 4:30 PMPresentation Synopsis / Abstract
Post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS) is a common long-term complication of deep vein thrombosis that is frequently underdiagnosed. This presentation will provide an overview of the pathophysiology and incidence of PTS, with a focus on its ultrasound features. Particular attention will be given to patients who present with recurrent or persistent leg swelling following a prior DVT, in whom PTS is often overlooked. This session aims to increase sonographer awareness of PTS and highlight the importance of considering it during post-DVT lower limb assessments.
