Infection prevention in ultrasound practice – where are we at in 2025 ?
3:45 PM - 4:05 PMAbstract
Clinical Update – Infection prevention
The COVID19 pandemic highlighted the importance of infection prevention, especially in healthcare. The literature demonstrates examples of a connection between ultrasound examination and infection transmission. As shown by published IPC surveys, Australasian ultrasound practitioners are amongst the most well informed when it comes to this important topic.
This talk looks at the 2024 international recommendations for the reprocessing of endocavity ultrasound transducers and how these compare to our current IPC practice.
We will also discusses the latest Australian standards and TGA regulatory requirements.
Take home message:
Preventing infection transmission should be an important mandate in ultrasound practice.
