Biography
Associate Prof Ka Lai (Clara) Shek |
Western Sydney University
Dr Ka Lai Shek is Chinese and born and raised in Hong Kong. She undertook her medical and subspeciality training in Hong Kong before she moved to Australia to undertake a PhD in Medicine with the University of Sydney. The subject of her thesis was ‘The effect of childbirth on the pelvic floor’. Her research interest includes pelvic floor ultrasound imaging, maternal birth trauma and mesh and sling implants used in pelvic floor reconstructive surgery. She has authored or co-authored more than 130 peer reviewed articles.
She is currently Associate Professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology with the Western Sydney University, Liverpool and Campbelltown campuses. She has served as Associate Editor of the Ultrasound Journal in Obstetrics and Gynecology between October 2018 to 2024 and the Chair of the IUGA Pelvic Floor Imaging Special Interest Group between 2020 to 2022.
