Sound check - Ultrasound's role in scanning the paediatric vocal cords

1:30 PM - 2:20 PM

Abstract

Vocal cord palsy in paediatric patients is most commonly seen following cardiac surgery. While flexible laryngoscopy is considered the gold standard for assessing vocal cord function, ultrasound has emerged as a valuable, non-invasive imaging tool for diagnosing vocal cord palsy. This workshop will provide a brief overview of the anatomy of the larynx and vocal cords, followed by in-depth instruction on ultrasound scanning techniques specifically tailored to paediatric patients.
Participants will gain practical insights into optimizing imaging protocols, identifying key anatomical landmarks, and effectively diagnosing vocal cord palsy. This session is designed to equip attendees with the knowledge and skills to integrate ultrasound into their clinical practice for improved patient outcomes.
