Abstract

This workshop aims to provide participants with a comprehensive, hands-on experience in using ultrasound to assess the appendix. Through a series of live demonstrations and guided practice, attendees will learn key techniques for identifying the appendix and evaluating it for signs of inflammation. The session will cover the anatomical landmarks, proper patient preparation, and the best scanning protocols to ensure accurate visualization of the appendix.
Participants will also gain an understanding of the role of ultrasound in the diagnosis of appendicitis. Emphasis will be placed on identifying common pitfalls and challenges, such as distinguishing the appendix from other structures and recognizing the subtle sonographic signs of appendicitis, including wall thickening, hyperechoic peri-appendiceal fat, and fluid collections.
By the end of the workshop, attendees will have improved their confidence and proficiency in performing ultrasound scans of the appendix, enabling them to incorporate this valuable diagnostic tool into their clinical practice. Real-time feedback will help refine scanning techniques, ensuring participants can confidently assess the appendix in a variety of clinical scenarios.
