Neuralgic amyotrophy (Parsonage Turner Syndrome and brachial plexus)
9:00 AM - 10:30 AMAbstract
Neurogenic amyotrophy refers to a group of disorders characterized by the degeneration of motor neurons, resulting in muscle atrophy and weakness. This condition can occur as an isolated disorder or as part of broader neurological syndromes, and its causes range from genetic mutations and autoimmune disorders to trauma and viral infections. This presentation will provide an overview of neurogenic amyotrophy, focusing on its pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, as well as its ultrasound appearances.
Neurogenic amyotrophy has a number of distinctive ultrasound changes to the individual fascicles of the affected nerve. The main one of which is an hour glass constriction.
This masterclass will highlight how the Sonographer can identify the changes to and within a nerve that will lead ton accurate diagnosis.
