Thyroid nodules in the paediatric population

3:45 PM - 4:05 PM

Abstract

The detection of thyroid nodule within adults are far more common when compared to the paediatric population. However, there is a greater incidence of thyroid cancer and increased risk of malignancy in children than in adults. Ultrasound guidelines, classification and management are well established within adults however the literature is currently not in consensus for paediatric thyroid nodules. This review will address the current literature regarding the dilemmas and management of paediatric thyroid nodules in practice.

Little voices, big waves: a peek into paediatric vocal cord imaging

4:05 PM - 4:25 PM

Abstract

Vocal cord palsy in the paediatric population is most frequently associated with cardiac surgery. While flexible laryngoscopy remains the gold standard for evaluating vocal cords, ultrasound has emerged as an effective imaging modality for diagnosing vocal cord palsy. This presentation will explore the primary causes of vocal cord palsy in paediatric patients, provide an overview of relevant anatomy, outline ultrasound scanning techniques, and provide practical tips for accurate diagnosis.

Biography

Ms Gaby D'Agostino | Royal Children's Hospital Gaby is a qualified Sonographer with a background in medical radiations. She completed her initial qualifications in medical radiations in 2011 and earned her sonography qualification in 2021. Gaby has worked at the Royal Children's Hospital since 2013, where she has honed her expertise in paediatric sonography. Over the past four years, in addition to her professional growth, she has also embraced the rewarding challenge of raising two young daughters, Lucy (4.5) and Ella (3). The role of ultrasound in juvenile arthritis

4:25 PM - 4:45 PM

Abstract

Juvenile arthritis is the most common chronic childhood rheumatic disease. The spectrum of highly effective treatment options has expanded rapidly over the last few decades and clinical remission is a realistic target for most patients. Abrogation of inflammation, even asymptmatic, is important to reduce the risk of disease related damage. To achieve this target, careful physical evaluation is key to inform treatment decisions. Ultrasound is an important adjunct to clinical examination to identify active inflammatory disease, assess for damage and exclude mimics.
