Stress Echo and IHD

1:45 PM - 2:15 PM

Abstract

Stress Echocardiography is a great non-invasive tool for assessing the likelihood of a patient having obstructive (ischaemic) coronary artery disease. This talk will focus on Stress Echocardiography's role and challenges in diagnosing obstructive coronary disease and it's place among the various diagnostic tools available, but it will also touch on some of the other clinical information you can obtain when performing this simple, yet challenging test.

Live scanning - Important windows in stress echocardiography

2:55 PM - 3:05 PM

Biography

Assoc Prof. Stuart Moir | Melbourne Heart Care Assoc Prof Stuart Moir is a clinical cardiologist and non invasive imaging specialist, with expertise in all forms of echocardiography (TTE, stress, TOE, contrast echocardiography) as well as cardiac CT and cardiac MRI. He completed his clinical cardiology training and an 18 month fellowship in echocardiography at MonashHeart in 2002. Stuart then undertook a PhD with the Cardiac Imaging Research Group, University of Queensland, Department of Medicine, examining the application of contrast echocardiography for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac disease. This led to several publications in leading international journals, and as a research fellow he was awarded the prestigious combined National Heart Foundation and National Health and Medical Research Council Scholarship, presented many papers at national and international conferences and was a finalist for the Ralph Reader Prize at the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand. Stuart then acted as the contrast echocardiography fellow at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester Mn USA, before returning to Australia to divide his time between private practice and a staff specialist position at MonashHEART. He trained in cardiac CT in San Francisco in 2008 and completed a cardiac MRI fellowship at The Heart Hospital in London in 2013. He is currently the Lead Cardiologist for the cardiac MRI service at MonashHEART. He is a married father of three young children and is a long suffering Richmond supporter.

Cardiogenic shock: Echo in the critically ill

2:35 PM - 2:55 PM

Abstract

This presentation will include an approach to the imaging assessment of a patient with acute heart failure and cardiogenic shock with regards to the differential diagnosis, intra-cardiac pressure assessment, cardiac output measurement and echo-directed monitoring of inotropic and vasopressor support.

Furthermore, the role of echocardiography in the assessment of a patient for mechanical circulatory support with VA ECMO and Impella will be discussed, and will include the role of imaging in patient selection, monitoring on support, and weaning.
